Since then he held a research position, working jointly with Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and King's College London. Peter’s research focuses on physiological monitoring of hospital patients, divided into three areas. The first area concerns the development of signal processing techniques to estimate clinical parameters from physiological signals. He has focused on unobtrusive estimation of respiratory rate for use in ambulatory settings, invasive estimation of cardiac output for use in critical care, and novel techniques for analysis of the pulse oximetry (photoplethysmogram) signal. Secondly, he is investigating the effectiveness of technologies for the acquisition of continuous and intermittent physiological measurements in ambulatory and intensive care settings. Thirdly, he is developing techniques to transform continuous monitoring data into measurements that are appropriate for real-time alerting of patient deteriorations.Mohammad GhassemiMohammad is a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As an undergraduate, he studied Electrical Engineering and graduated as both a Goldwater scholar and the University's â€œOutstanding Engineer”. Stacy Holmes strong voice comes through loud and clear as he takes us on an unsentimental, intense journey through his personal recovery process from spinal cord surgery injury. Useful to anyone faced with a similar physical and emotional challenge, his book is packed with valuable advice and resources. It's main appeal for many will also be the surprising reminder that we are the architects of our own lives, and not passive receivers. Living fully is a joy we can all experience if we are willing to do the work, which starts with just opening our eyes.

Having a far different challenge (COPD), I was fearful that this book would only make me feel bad about what I cannot do. Instead, I found many details surprisingly useful and affirming.

I just finished Stacy's book. I think it will be of great help to those looking for specific actions they can take to restore not just their body, but also their mind and spirit.I particularly liked the inclusion of all of the references at the back of each chapter with the reminder that it was all available on his websiteAll in all, a great resource I'm happy to recommend.

Really enjoyed it! Stacy is an amazing person and an amazing author. Part memoir, part managerial how-to handbook, this is a great book for people with or without disabilities including those currenly doing rehabilitation, but also those helping a loved one facing any kind of disability or long term therapy. Very well written and to the point, there is a lot of great information packed into its brief 123 pages!

My hero has written a book. Stacy Holmes' remarkable recovery from spinal cord injury is a story of pure guts and determination. I had the chance to see early drafts of this book and can recommend it without reservation. It's honest, inspiring, practical and funny, with insights useful for almost anyone facing a serious challenge or just plain life. Congratulations, Stacy.

The title of my review is “More Of The Same.” And that’s a good thing. Although this is my very first time buying a how-to-speak-Italian ebook from this company, I am very familiar with this company’s Spanish language products, after purchasing several products from them, including Learn Beginner Spanish. This ebook has the same downside as the ebook for their Learn Beginner Spanish. And that’s the fact that there is absolutely no way that anyone can learn Italian or any other foreign language just by reading a transcript (i.e. ebook). I found this ebook as well as the Learn Beginner Spanish ebook to be of little or no benefit. And that’s putting it nicely. That’s the downside. The upside is that this is not just an ebook. It is actually an audio book that includes 5 audio Italian lessons that are included at no additional cost. That’s the reason I have chosen to give this book a 5-star review instead of 1-star review (which I would have done without hesitation if the 5 audio lessons had not been included). Each of the 5 audio lesson provides roughly 30 minutes of Italian lessons. For me, to be able to get the audio without making an additional purchase is truly a bargain. You will find a page in the ebook with specific instructions on how to get access to the 5 downloadable audio Italian lessons. One thing that I want to make clear is that I am not writing a 5-star review simply because 5 audio lessons are included. I can assure you that if the Italian audio lessons were garbage, it wouldn’t matter to me how many Italian audio lessons they had included. This is my first audio program for learning Italian that I have ever purchased. I have however previously purchased a learn-Italian ebook. And although this is my first audio program for learning Italian, I can say that as a beginner student of this language, I am finding these audio lessons to be very engaging and fun. I find myself looking forward to winding down at the end of the day and studying my Italian lessons with this program. Anyone who has any experience learning a foreign language knows that the more you enjoy your program, the more you will study, which translates into learning a foreign language quicker.Another positive aspect of both this program and their Spanish program is that the learning-method used has a listening and repeating aspect that is really helping to improve my Italian pronunciation. They also only use native Italian speakers in the audio lessons to help make sure the learner develops an Italian accent with a very natural and authentic sound. One more thing that stands out about their programs is that the engaging and interactive method really helps you to think in a foreign language. When studying Spanish there was a problem that I’ve had for many years. Every time a Spanish speaker would speak to me or if I watching a Spanish language program on TV, I would try to translate every Spanish phrase that I heard in my head. Which obviously wasn’t too effective because by the time I’d finish translating a phrase in my head, the Spanish speaker is already finishing another phrase or two. But the interactive method used in both their Spanish and Italian programs really encourages me to actually “think” in a foreign language instead of trying to mentally translate from English into Italian. My final advice is to get this “ebook.” Go straight to the page in the ebook that tells you how to download the mp3 audio lessons. Then forget all about the ebook, and just use the audio lessons to learn how to speak Italian. If you follow these instructions, I think you’ll be very happy with your purchase.

This is a very effective method to learn a foreign language. I have used several of this same company's programs to learn a foreign language. Started out with their Spanish program and enjoyed the method so much I am now trying to learn Italian with their method. The best thing about the method is that it is so engaging. There are so many programs that are purely based on listening and repeating. Not this program. Although listening and repeating is involved in their learning method (how else would you learn proper pronunciation and listening comrehension), the crux of the program is to get you thinking in the target language and to get you speaking it as quickly as possible. I am not the type of person who can learn a language just by repeating a bunch of random phrases. Which is what a lot of programs do. But not in this program. In this program, the instructor keeps you engaged. And that's why this program overshadows the others.By the way, don't make the same mistake a friend of mine made. I recommended this program to her and she only ordered the ebook transcript. You really need to get the audio program either here at Amazon or Audible otherwise you are just wasting your time.Title: The Most Engaging Way To Learn A Language

After experiencing a couple of learning-Spanish products from the same author, I thought I'd give this program a try. So far, I'm loving it. I just finished the first lesson. My plan is to repeat each lesson three times before moving on to the next lesson. In the first lesson, I learned how to conjugate the verb "parlare" (to speak) and say phrases in Italian such as "io parlo" (I speak) and "tu parli" (you speak), "lui parla," (he speaks), "lei parla" (she speaks), "noi parliamo," (we speak), "loro parlano" (they speak). I also learned how to conjugate the Italian verb "camminare" in this lesson - which means “to walk.” Since I am truly a beginner with Italian, I am really pleased with the progress that I am making already. I intentionally avoid the transcripts because I think avoiding them really helps with learning proper pronunciation and developing listening skills in Italian.

I am very happy with my purchase and not only the quantity of Italian I'm learning but also the quantity that I am learning. The Italian that I'm learning from this program is without a doubt useful conversational Italian. The only complaint I have is that I have to buy all of the authors products individually which gets expensive after a while. The authors would do their customers a huge favor by creating "bundles" of their programs. By packaging their products in "bundles" or box sets, it would be a lot more affordable for me to buy them. The link to the audiobook is in the ebook. The link doesn't do anything but take you to this same web page that you're on right now where you're given the option to get the audio version for free with a trial membership to Audible.

What stands out about these lessons is that the teaching method really cements what you learn in your head. They're not using some mechanical method to force you to memorize a bunch of Italian words and phrases that you'll soon forget. I am actually learning how to think in Italian. And I haven't even started to write about how much my accent in Italian has improved (according to a friend from Naples). My advice is to not use the script. It is certainly going to be more challenging trying to use this program with just the audio and no script. But if you take my advice and don't use the script, I can assure you that after a few weeks you'll not only learn how to think in Italian, Italian speakers will also begin to give your Italian pronunciation a thumbs-up.
