I was excited to purchase this book and read it because I love the 5 love languages however when I entered the MBA inventory code that came with the book it says this registration code has already been used. Very disappointing. I would not buy this book again.

Great summation of all the love languages and how they can be used in the workplace to show appreciation. If you’re familiar with the 5 love languages this will be an easy read. It includes Generational differences in love language expression, specifics for different style work places/different industries, expressing appreciation when working with volunteers, challenges that make expressing appreciation hard and how to overcome them, Lots of examples and case studies as well as Q&A. There are thought probing questions that guide the reader to understand their language of appreciation as well as language of appreciation for their coworkers and bosses. Love how the book stresses that it’s not just bosses that should show appreciation to subordinate but that coworkers and bosses need to be shown appreciation by employees as well.I received a digital copy of this book from netgalley. This has in no way influenced this review. I wasn’t required to write a review. All thoughts are my own.

Chapman and White’s Five Languages of Appreciation at Work is written with the same premise of some of their other works, most famously their Languages of Love. This book focuses, as the title states, in the work environment, not at home. It addresses the ways colleagues and supervisors can demonstrate appreciation to one another. The book outlines the five languages with explanations and examples. It provides data and facts to support the notions that showing appreciation is key if it is done in a way that actually matches the way a person wants to be appreciated. The authors have created an inventory to allow individuals to identify and classify their appreciation method. Once known, it can be shared and explored, so people can get the accolades they deserve, in a way that will feel sincere and valid. The authors also acknowledged that knowing about appreciation types is helpful but not foolproof, and sometimes just knowing one’s appreciation style is not enough. They share strategies that address scenarios and situations when more is needed or miscommunication may have occurred. I appreciate the honesty in acknowledging this aspect of the dynamic.Overall, I think anyone who works in a group setting and cares about being appreciated in a way that makes sense to them (I know this is not everyone), will benefit from taking the inventory and reading the book. Though I received a digital copy to review, I went out and bought a hard copy and inventory, as I want to show it to my coworkers and perhaps integrate it fully in my work setting.(I received an advance copy of The 5 Languages through NetGalley and have written an impartial review)

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace by Gary Chapman and Paul White (originally publishes in 2012, this is the newest edition) is based off of Gary Chapman's original book The 5 Love Languages. Applying the concepts of The 5 Love Languages to work is a bit challenging but Chapman and White make it easy to relate to the examples of how to understand how people accept appreciation and respect at work.Each person is different, but generally people will fall into one of the five areas where they accept appreciation. One of the biggest things this book accomplishes is explaining that some people just don't accept appreciation in the common business standard ways. For example, some people do not like public acknowledgement as it is very embarrassing for them. There are many examples and later in the book, challenges to overcome. The important thing is to find out how your co-workers and employees like to be shown appreciation. It shows respect and acknowledges the differences in a way that encourages diversity.Another concern I think most employees would have going into reading a book like this is that employers would find yet another way to "motivate" employees by handing out appreciation awards in order to get them to perform better. This is definitely addressed in The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace. Overall I think it cuts through the lame reasons that employers try to manipulate and embraces the unique qualities of employees. Showing appreciation is an excellent way to keep your staff motivated and energized! Who doesn't want that?

Great read that gives much food for thought for managers and employees for various ways of showing genuine appreciation without manipulation. Around 240 pages, the book addresses many areas, including:1. Importance of knowing a person's "appreciation language".2. False assumptions about showing appreciation.3. Practical tips for becoming a better listener.4. 5 types of quality time and 4 barriers to quality time with others.5. 7 practical ways to effectively help others and 3 questions to ask yourself for helping others.6. Suggestions for appropriate physical contact when showing appreciation (indeed, this is a "touchy" subject nowadays - pardon the pun!).7. 3 informal ways to find your co-worker's appreciation language(s).8. 2 key parts in giving tangible gifts as tokens of appreciation.Well-written and full of excellent insights, the book is a great read for anyone who wants to be a better manager or co-worker. This book is a monumental achievement and legacy for the author and for the subject. Marjorie Ransom refers to the Land of Sheba in the title—nice historical touch—but I feel it is important for potential readers to know that this is Yemen. Yes, Yemen, the country over which we fly drones, the country whose threat level the Department of State describes as “extremely high,” and the country to which travel is strongly discouraged. The reader needs this context to be reminded of the common humanity all people share behind the headlines. Yes, terrorists live in Yemen but Yemenis are not terrorists. They are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, families in the daily struggle for food and shelter and the occasional luxury of a fine piece of jewelry, which is the subject this book stunningly catalogues and spreads before us. No, I’m not suggesting you vacation there. I’m suggesting that this book provides a cultural vista you could never experience by traveling to Yemen, regardless of what risk you might be prepared to take. If you google Yemen and follow the links to culture, you will not find a reference—at least I did not—to the remarkable silver jewelry tradition that Marjorie offers for your pleasure. Gaze upon it. Best of all, even though I knew the outlines of the history quite well, I learned something on every page and felt enthralled for all 500 pages.America was discovered at the very beginning of the modern age, during what we would call the Renaissance, though many of the explorers resembled medieval pillagers at best; Europe was also moving into the Reformation, of course, which played out in the Americas in its own brutal ways. The Europeans had limited experience dealing with culture clash and shock, so they presumed their superiority over the "savage pagans" and hence treated the natives as slaves and animals, though there were a few humanitarian exceptions.The Spanish arrived looking for slaves and gold, bringing the first wave of microbes that would kill up to 98% of the native populations. Their idea was to extract as much wealth as possible, though a few of them began to establish ranches and farms. Interestingly, the template for the conquistadors were the Canary Islands, which they essentially devastated - killing virtually all the natives, destroying the entire natural ecology, and installing themselves as slave plantation owners.About 100 years later, the British began to attempt to colonize what became Virginia. After several catastrophic failures and wars with the Spanish, they succeeded in establishing a crude colony, based on indentured labor for the price of passage and tobacco plantations; it was loosely Anglican. England at that time was in social upheaval, so many wished to depart with hopes of a better life. This soon changed when New England was established, which was largely Puritan though with many other strict protestant sects. While relatively autarkic economically, once the highly profitable sugar plantations were established in Barbados and its nearby islands, there was finally a market for New England goods, stimulating the economy for fish and other staples that the West Indies could not produce for itself. The sugar plantations also served as template for slave plantations in the deep south.The French established trading posts in Canada, working more cooperatively with the Indians because of the sparseness of French immigration. Most of their trade was in furs, which the Indians supplied in exchange for guns and metal tools. There were also Dutch and Swedish colonies in the mid-Atlantic, soon to be absorbed into the British Empire, which continued its incipient war with the French until the 18C.Each colony had its own character, such as Quaker Pennsylvania under the Penn family, a kind of family franchise that boomed for a number of decades and was surprisingly tolerant. Most fascinating to me was the establishment of Rhode Island, a tolerant oasis for religious experimentation, by Roger Williams when he was exiled from Massachusetts for religious ideas that bordered on fanaticism.Throughout the volume, Taylor is very critical of the behavior of the colonists, who in spite of many sincere efforts to treat the natives with dignity and respect essentially wound up taking whatever they wanted. As a result, surviving east coast Indians were either pushed west or simply massacred. Many of the tribes that emerged were actually amalgams of disease survivors, hence relatively new, though larger groupings, such as the Iroquois nations, remained players for longer periods. Of course, there were exceptional adaptations as well: when the Plains Indians acquired guns and horses, they expanded their populations and became formidable adversaries as newly established warrior cultures, though could never effectively unite; they also remained dependent on white men for gun powder and metal working.Taylor goes into many of the cultural details of all parties involved, particularly the various Indian tribes. This is very fun, but due to the format of a comprehensive survey is superficial at best. The bibliography is also outdated, given that the book was written about 20 years ago. If I have a serious criticism, it is the lack of a sum-up chapter at the end, bringing together the complex strands that Taylor describes so well.This is an unusually fun read for a survey history. Taylor does a great job at pointing out the brutal underbelly of what transpired, no holds barred, but also in historical context of what the protagonists were thinking. Recommended warmly.

It covers the early Spanish and French explorers, the horrors committed by the Conquistadors, and an interesting perspective on the differences between the English colonists in Chesapeake (Virginia) and Massachusetts. American Colonies also gives you a very detailed view of the history of the various Indian tribes both before and after the Europeans arrived. Until I read this book I never realized that Indians farmed corn and beans to such a great extent. Not only that, but the farming methods of the Indians on the Atlantic seaboard was far superior to the methods used by the early colonists. Much of the land used by the Massachusetts colonists for farming was first cleared by Indians who perished in astounding numbers by disease. The book also details the history of slavery in the Western Hemisphere, and describes why natives snared into slavery perished, and why slaves brought from Africa survived. If you enjoy reading about history of the Americas, this is a book you should read. Be mindful that its coverage goes way beyond the American colonies. It is really about the history of Central America, the Caribbean, the United States and Canada, focusing on the period between 1492 and 1820.

Alan Taylor surveys the history of settling of North America from its earliest inhabitants (scholarship as of 2000, could use an update) to the formation of the United States in a very thoughtful, non-partisan manner. This work is full of fascinating details. For example, in its earliest forms in North America, slavery was not initially based on race but turned into racial chattel slavery in a very particular manner for a very particular reason. It first provides an overview of digital holographic microscopy (DHM) and holographic optical tweezers as well as non-diffracting beam types for minimal-invasive, real-time and marker-free imaging as well as manipulation of micro and nano objects.It then investigates the design concepts for the optical layout of holographic optical tweezers (HOTs) and their optimization using optical simulations and experimental methods. Stephan Stuerwald studied Physics and Mathematics at the University of Muenster in Germany and the Université Paris Sud 11, prior to completing his diploma thesis at the Center for Biomedical Optics and Photonics at the University Medical Center of Muenster. He then moved to the Fraunhofer Institute in Aachen in 2008, where he was a Research Fellow for 2 years before becoming group leader for optical metrology. He has received a number of awards for his achievements in optics-related research at various optics and metrology conferences and also obtained a research excellence grant from the National Metrology Institute of Germany within the framework of the European Metrology Research Program (EMRP). He also became lecturer at RWTH University in 2009. Since then has lectured on topics including (optical) metrology in general, sensor techniques and data processing and biomedical physics. During his work at the Fraunhofer Institute he prepared his doctoral thesis on optical wave front metrology. In 2015 he joined the Optoelectronics Research group as a postdoc at the University of California Berkeley.

This book is a survey of real estate law and investing concepts that is an absolute steal as a mass market product. The information in this book is sold for hundreds if not thousands of dollars in other media such as seminars, academic courses, and professional books.Sutton covers a myriad of topics, with an overall emphasis on tax minimization and keeping your investments out of the reach of ambulance-chasing attorneys. It is an absolutely brilliant production.There are many other topics covered in this book which you will find helpful and enlightening. Throughout the book, Sutton uses the case study method (used in law schools and business schools) to bring to life the reasons why proper asset protection planning and tax strategies can both maximize your income, minimize your tax liabilities, and protect your investments.In closing, I can't recommend this book more highly for anybody in any way connected with real estate. This should be the first thing you read about real estate investing, and Sutton provides numerous references for more in-depth discussions of certain topics. I recommend purchasing the Audible version and listening to it in the car, doing the dishes, and performing other chores, and then either owning the physical book or Kindle edition as a desktop reference. Rich Dad has once again hit a home run, and has successfully demystified and deconstructed a complex and daunting profession. With "Loopholes of Real Estate", the advantages of real estate investing are now open and accessible to ordinary Americans from every walk of life.Thank you, Mr. Sutton and Mr. Kiyosaki.

A local real estate club host interviews the author, Garret Sutton, on a radio show. This book is mentioned in the interview. I am hooked by the title of "Loopholes" of Real Estate, as I am active in learning tricks for tax saving. So, I go ahead and get a kindle version. After reading the whole book, I realize this book does not offer me any new tricks in saving tax from my real estate portfolio....don't get me wrong, this book does cover quite some tax saving techniques, but I know them already. However, to my surprise, this book has quite some asset protection related subjects. And I do learn quite a bit on this subject from this book....things like:1) What is a land trust? This book helps me to fully understand the purpose, the usage, the pro and con of a land trust.2) Why a California LLC is a weak LLC. Why Nevada LLC, or Wyomin LLC are strong LLCs.3) What are the homestead exemption differences in different states. And how the homestead exemption can protect asset.4) The difference between Grand deed and quit claim deed.5) Use mortgage to discourage lawsuit.6) Use line-of-credit on property to discourage lawsuit.I especially like Garret Sutton's approach in this book by using layman terms to cover subjects that could be hard to understand. Even better yet, quite some examples (or cases) are used to ensure readers fully understand each subject well.I have 10+ rental properties all under my own name. I have been using both personal umbrella and commercial umbrella policies as the shield for asset protection. This book really helps me to have a clear picture how to proceed from here to implement a better asset protection scheme.This book costs me less than 10 dollars. But what I got from it is far more than the book's cost. I highly recommend this book for real estate investors...whether they are looking for tax saving tips or for asset protection recommendations.

The Rich Dad series has once again published another "must have" book. If you are a student of the Rich Dad books, this book along with "Tax Free Wealth" (see my review) are the two most important books you will ever read to garner the knowledge needed to structure a long-term wealth-building strategy. The basic Rich Dad books lay the foundation of wealth building. However, this book and "Tax Free Wealth" actually demonstrate how to do it, and why it makes sense to follow such plans. These two books answer all the questions you may have had and tie up all the loose ends. Buy these two books, read them and keep them forever for reference.
