The1st recipe I tried "Candied Ginger and Peach Scones" was the one that prompted me to purchase the book. It didn't mention how much, when or how to incorporate the peaches into the recipe. I emailed the author and she promptly replied back '1 cup diced'. Okay, no problem. I proceeded to follow the recipe, however there are other errors....it takes much longer to cook than the 15 minutes in the instructions, also the entire 3/4 cup of heavy cream listed in the recipe was way too much to add to the dry mixture...and later on the author directs you to use the remaining heavy cream to lightly brush the top before placing it in the oven....what remaining heavy cream?...you had me add it all to the dry mixture and it was a total mess that required significantly more flour than it should have to knead it before it could be placed in the skillet.I was able to salvage it by compensating for the omissions/errors, but it was frustrating and time consuming.I'm reluctant to try any more of her recipes, as it doesn't appear that they were kitchen tested or at the very least edited by someone that actually knows how to cook. I sense that I wasted money on this book.

I am delighted with this book. If nothing else the information about seasoning the cast iron, along with the appropriate cleaning instructions has given me confidence to pull out my skillet and put it to use. To me, that alone was well worth the investment in the book. Additionally, the PEACH AND BLACKBERRY UPSIDE-DOWN CAKE was so good that I made three more (with variations) after the first one. My cast iron pans are now becoming the first ones on the stove and in the oven.

I don't know what sour 'SS' is talking about. I bought the Kindle edition of this excellent cookbook because I wanted it right away. Then I sent the print edition to a friend in Minneapolis and got a free Kindle edition, so now I have two! I have only made a couple of the recipes so far [spicy juevos rancheros and the crispy chicken thighs] but they were both delicious. Next is going to be the day boat scallops, but it's really hard to decide because everything sounds and looks so delicious. The recipes all seem pretty easy and don't require multiple trips to the market. The best thing about this cookbook is virtually every dish can be made in one skillet. I think I am going to buy a smaller skillet to sit on top of my larger one so I can more easily make those gooey grilled cheese sandwiches that I love so much! This cookbook is a real value and beautifully designed. I have already sent another friend, a real foodie, the print edition too. I wish I could share my Kindle version as well!

I've been cooking a loooong time and consider myself a true foodie. It's not often I get too excited about a cookbook, and even more rare when there are so many recipes in it I can't wait to try. I first bought this as an ebook, and then had to buy a hard copy so It wouldn't be lost in the cyber-sea of my iPad library. Oh.my.gosh. The recipes are so good!

Love the book and its easy recipes. No photos of the food though which I think for a cook book is a must as I have no idea what the finished product would like. Luckily I am a good cook but for novice cooks a cookbook with no photos is not easy to follow.

I am a serious griller and smoker of meats and cast iron skillets are very useful additions to the "tool kit". This particular book is excellent and as a first recipe I suggest the "Cheddar-Jalapeno Skillet Cornbread with Fresh Corn and Scallions". It hardly gets any better than that!

All of the recipies I've tried so far have been delicious. Liberal use of herbs make these meals a bit more sophisticated than some, but not more difficult. Instructions are clear. Table of contents is a little awkward in ebook form, but it is worth the effort to figure it out. The soups and stews work just as well in a Dutch oven if you have one.

Pretty pictures and does give nice directions on care and recipes but when I purchased this book that reads "home skillet", I expected home cooking type of meals- not make once in a while because it's for "special" types of meals. Guess I was looking for cabin type recipes for gravy, regular corn bread etc. not breakfast clafoutis recipes.

Go-to handbook. The concepts will click even if you have never worked in such an environment before, and if you have it will make you see the past issues and possible solutions more clearly. Excellent book!

I would expect better quality for a book titled "The Process Improvement Handbook"This book had warped pages and poor binding. The book also had very poor graphics. Cheap constrution quality for a hard cover book.

Excellent breadth of process improvement methods and tools. Do not expect significant depth or explanation on each method or tool. Regardless, the templates are very useful!

Ok, full disclaimer: I am an agile person - eat, drink, sleep, and dream agile/lean. I crossed the bridge to agility in 2003 and since burned the bridge. So it was with ample skepticism but open mind that I undertook this nuts-and-bolts book, temporarily suspending my personal connotations of "process management".What I found intrigued and delighted me. When I stepped aside of my "ask the team" mindset, my "just sprint and all will be revealed to you" mantra, I realized that Boutros and Purdie have managed to not only neatly distill the ABCs of process improvement, but build an entire process ecosystem. Sure, some of the "labels" of things aren't maybe what I'd call them, but the notion of process improvement and process care-taking are necessities, and therein lies the meat of this book. The fact is that someone (or a bunch of someones) needs to usher and guide good process refinements, of course including the team and business stakeholders in that exercise. Forget the nuance of labels; rather, read this book with an attempt to understand the purpose, the bigger picture, the thing that matters.Too many companies fall short on reliable, sustainable processes, and end up doing their customers and teams a disservice. While it is impossible to mistake-proof a complex adaptive system we call a 'business' (which by nature of being a business, evolves a little each and every day), it is certainly valuable for process minded people to help the business solve every day issues, from big to small, building a system that in turn signals when there are problems. I agree when the authors say that "simply changing functional titles into process roles does not fundamentally change an organization's landscape or provide the organization with end-to-end view that employees can cooperatively manage and improve." This handbook can fill in those knowledge gaps as Boutros and Purdie provide a list of core competencies that a good process change leader should possess and instill in others.Boutros and Purdie discuss the Process Improvement Manifesto, of which one key facet is agility. They beautifully referenced the ever-evolving state of process: "Ever changing, adapting, and serving an individual and collective purpose, the ecosystem must have sufficient maintenance to remain in good health." Inspect and adapt.If you are at all involved with or interested in process improvement, I urge you to read this book and take from it what will improve your organization. Whether you're a smaller company trying to get your arms around the chaos, or a larger company trying to get back to small-company roots, this book does a great job of scaling the process improvement mindset with its focus on "process choreography" and the "process oriented architecture." It helps you see all the layers of process improvement and architecture. There's something for everyone in this book; use it for yourself, discuss topics with your team members, find ways to improve your organization's day-to-day processes and help everyone "see the whole". This book reiterated to me that a company can greatly benefit when everyone - not just management - harbors a continuous process improvement mindset and practices.

Rebought the newest version of Erickson. I had originally read the first edition during seminary. I love the fact that Erickson surveys all points of view and gives you the best arguments for each. He will, of course, come down in favor of one particular view, but he gives you enough information to make up your own mind and truly understand the points of view that you end up accepting and rejecting. He doesn't just push one viewpoint and tell you why all the others are wrong. Erickson is solidly Evangelical and espouses a mildly Reformed stance, but gives you an excellent overview.

First, let me say that I am a student of theology and love to study it. Second, I know a great book when I read one and though this book is great, it is massive and scholarly in its coverage it is NOT for your ordinary lay theologian. It is a read that will leave you well versed and incredibly informed, but it is not a book anyone will benefit from if you are only committed to a casual read. So . . . if you are just starting to fall in love with the study of God, pick another book, or buy this one and put it away until you are ready to take in all this incredible author has to say and challenge you with.

I am currently using the Kindle edition with a Systematic Theology (ST) seminary class. As other reviewers have observed, Erickson goes into details that many other ST authors don't. (For example, I like his discussion of the words for "sin" much better than Ryrie's.)I'm glad I got the Kindle version. Unlike a 1000+ page book, it doesn't add the first ounce to carry with my laptop! I can also have the book open on the screen alongside any papers I am writing.I have one quibble with the way this book is typeset and one with Kindle texts in general. In general, formatting does not carry over when doing a copy-n-paste for quoting into another document. Paragraphs run together.Second, this book uses a great deal of Greek and Hebrew words (no surprise there), but these words do not show up at all in a copy-n-paste. (Often, in my study, I like to copy a large section into Word and print it off double/triple-space so my pen and I can "interact" with the text while I ride the train to work.) Again, this has nothing to do with the author's work, just the Kindle formatting

I am not going to add to the many positive comments on the content already posted except to note that I agree with most of them. I want to post some comments on the Kindle version since I have not seen many reviews of it.The Kindle version is the same text as the second edition print copy. I had initially bought the Kindle copy in March 2012 but had to return it because it did not contain "real page numbers" even though it was advertised at that time that it did. I needed the page numbers to read the original text from citations to this text found in papers. When I saw it 2 months later in May 2012 with page numbers advertised, I was both a little annoyed and curious. If they had not changed the advert since the last time I bought it, I would post a complaint and at the same time I really wanted an electronic copy to ease my reference work. And as it turns out, it did have page numbers that match the printed version, in addition to the silly Kindle location number scheme. Now it is truly a great reference text.So on with the review of the Kindle edition, the text in electronic form contains all the Greek, Hebrew and transliteration fonts reasonably accurately displayed, although I have not figured out a way to search for them or even select them individually on my reader. If you copy a portion of text with these fonts in them, they will simply not appear when you paste them elsewhere. The diagrams are accurately rendered but was not "zoomable" in the Android Kindle reader, although it can be done with the IPod Kindle reader. The overall appearance in the various readers is very close to the printed text. I have a copy of it for comparison.I love the electronic edition because I can now copy and paste references for my work and search the text for relevant material easily. I can make notes, bookmark and hi lite. Best part of all this is that it is available on my kindle, IPod and PC, I only wish I had my original notes from the margins of the print copy here as well. I have mentioned some cons already but the biggest feature lacking is the lack of hyper linked bible verses. Some of these are Kindle reader issues but that is another matter to be raised elsewhere.In this Kindle edition, we now have a great and useable reference resource.

This is a very comprehensive theology. Alternative views are presented followed by a conclusion with the author's own standpoint. These conclusions are presented with conviction but not so dogmatically as to exclude or insult the intelligence of those with other viewpoints.The chapters are well organised for the student, each beginning with objectives, a summary, study questions and a chapter plan. These help the student to read critically and to engage their thinking hat as they read. It also makes the text more useful as a reference work.The Kindle edition reads fairly well. My one gripe is the the contents page is not indexed itself. If you want to jump to the contents page you have to go to the 'beginning' which is the preface, then scroll back to find the contents. As there are 60 chapters, this can involve a lot of scrolling. Luckily the chapter headings in the contents page are indexed.The price seems fairly high for a kindle edition, but for 1313 pages it's probably worth it even just to avoid having to reinforce your book shelf.

A high quality treatment of a wide range of theological issues. I appreciate the way the book gives several of the prevailing perspectives on a lot of the issues and gives a healthy and unbiased check against reason and Biblical context for them. I read this book for a class at a seminary and I held onto it as I feel it would be a great book to use as a reference to stay sharp on some of the issues people may ask me questions about in my ministry career. The book's layout makes it easy to find the topic you need and skim through it for the main points, which is something I always value in this kind of a text.
