I have been collecting the entire Nice Little Town series since it was first published. Yesterday volume 7 was gifted to me. This is my favorite volume - but I have said this as each new volume has been released! Needless to say, I really adore this series and will continue to collect it as long as as it's being published.Since the Nice Little Town series has been published (and I assume very popular), there have been two other artists who have tried to jump into the popular tiny type of village art (there may be others, but I am only aware of two). One artist has drawn adorable fairy villages, and the other one has created a tiny flower village. While I must admit that they really cute, in my opinion, there is nothing, so far, that compares to the original Nice Little Town series. Tjiyis only my opinion, and of course, you may disagree with me. But this is the wonderful and exciting thing about art, there is something for everyone.In my excitement about receiving this marvelous book, I couldn't resist coloring a couple of pictures right away. Here are the important things that any colorist will probably want to know regarding this book;1. This book, like all of the rest of the books in this series, is printed on the typical white, create space paper. Many people don't mind this paper at all, while others don't like it at all.2. The artwork is printed single sided (only one picture is printed on the front of the page, while the back is left blank). As is the norm for create space published books, the pages are not perforated.Many people often complain about the pages not being perforated, but there is a really simple solution. Page perforators are available through Amazon for about $5. It's a small investment that you will never want to be without.3. If you plan to color the pages in the book I highly recommend that you place a piece of cardstock or several pieces of paper behind the page to protect the rest from drnts made by pencils and pens, and any wet mediums that will most certainly bleed through.One last thing that I want to mention is that Tatiana Bogema Stolova has a wonderful sense of humor and a lot of creativity. Anyone who can dream of the scenes that she creates is amazing to me. Her mice get more and more human in the lives that she depicts them living. This is a small book but it has lots of good illustrations and directions of rustic creations that will inspire readers to start making their own. The first impression of the contents is a "dated" look, but after reading it front to back several times, I realized that's exactly the timeless, rustic, nostalgia I wanted. The only thing I think it lacked was good color photos but I'll take my own soon.

This is an amazing book with very cool things to construct. Originally I ordered two books on how to make the furniture. Having quite a lot of wooded area that needs to be thinned, I wanted to not waste the wood. In addition to having 4-5 inch diameter wood for the sturdier frames, I have a lot of saplings that are within the 1-11/2 inch range used for bending.Very excited to now have arbors for.........Moon flowers and Hyacinth Beans.I highly recommend this book. What a fun project for parents and children to do together!!!!!

This is a great book for gardeners & crafters to dream over. I have not yet built anything, but I did plant a few varieties of willows for their wands...sticks..... it may take a few years.

I made my first trellis this past weekend based in his design. It will be perfect with the plants I have for it. Easy directions, pictures lay it out step-by-step and plenty of room for creativity. Thank you, Jim Long.

Just what I wanted, lots of good designs! Will be making trellises with the invasive plant, privet after my sheep eat all the lower leaves so I can get access to the taller parts. Privet is not the most highly recommended plant for trellises but widely available here in GA. We have a service reclaiming over grown property using sheep and so an endless supply! see sheepsworkdotcom.

Where there's butter, I do use butter (or ghee), but I use common sense on amounts.This cookbook does fill in a hole in my collection -- other than Cajun, until now I had no book centered around Southern cooking. This cookbook of Paula Deen's is worthwhile in its own right, and I enjoy reading her commentary about family members with each recipe.

I just purchased this cookbook and a cute rooster napkin holder in support of Paula Deen. I think it is terrible what the media and all of the companies that are dropping her are doing to her. I have never even seen her show and I only cook because I have to eat but I ordered the cookbook anyway. Maybe I will give it to someone for a wedding present. If I were held accountable for every bad word I said 27 years ago I would be in big trouble! I hear young people use the N word all time, why is it only OK for some people to use it? Double standards I guess. I wanted to order her new book that is coming out but Bantam Publishers dropped her like a hot potatoe, maybe we should not buy any books from that publisher! A BIG Thank You to Amazon for keeping her products available!!!!!!!

This is a really fun read that includes recipes from many of Ms. Deen's extended family. I've made several of the recipes and EVERY ONE has been a hit with my family. The recipes are beautifully illustrated and easy to follow. The recipes are easy to modify if you need to watch calories/fat without sacrificing flavor. My family loves food with depth of flavor and spicy kick and this one fits the bill. I would add that the publishers who cancelled her latest cookbook are fools. To cancel distribution of an obvious bestseller appears to be calculated to hurt her financially to appease the PC crowd. I hope she sues the butter out of them.

some good recipes, easy to follow.I mainly bought this book to support Paula, I feel she was totally thrown under the busfor someones very selfish reasons. The word was spoken 30yrs ago so I've heard,and show me one person on earth who has never never ever spoken a wrong choice of wordsfor any reason. Sick world we have now.I never rate anything to the top, nothing ever is all that perfect, none of us can be!Well there is one-----Jesus---and even He would not agree that He is perfect.

I love all of Paula Deen's cookbooks! She's down to earth and uses ingredients we all have. I bought a copy for me and I think I've bought two others to use as gifts. This arrived in the time promised in good condition. Thanks for a great sale!

This cookbook is special as it has so much family information in the recipes. This is an amazing family that has again come through in tact against the odds, and I like being able to support them in my small way. The recipes are tried and true and the ones I have made have been wonderful. I tend to lower the fat and avoid frying but still maintain the integrity of the recipes. Bobby has shown the way on that. Jamie's program brings family to the forefront which is a Deen tradition. Love the book; love the people.

Came packaged beautifully and is a splendid new book. First one of Paula Deen's I have purchased. But I am looking forward to buying books with recipes compiled by Paula's son, Bobby, because he lightens the recipes which are better than Paula's as far as weight watching goes.But it is fun to have one of Paula's books to remember her by. I do miss the entertainment value of her TV shows. She has such a good sense of humor.

Paula gives typical Southern food her unique flair with help from numerous relatives. . I really enjoyed the stories that accompany each receipe. The receipes were very similar to dishes my mother cooked, having lived the east Ark and born in Alabama. I was raised in Ok. so we never had fresh seafood. I would recommend it. Hope I can buy more before the powers that be remove everything that you built. love you, Trudy D

I live, study and work in the New York Tri-State region and this book is pretty great because the author also lived, worked and studied in the same region. Whats good about that? The Human Development and Expliotation is our region is very diverse and often connects directly with other prominent regions around the globe. The author basically covers alot of legalities, origins, design principles, and field work analysis really well.This was one of the easier to read text in my classes, not because it is written in laymans terms, but he writes the ideas in a clear concise manner and covers alot of material with great efficiency using (the best I've seen in any enviro-engineering text) superb diaghrams, pictures and charts.As a whole I felt the text demystifies alot of what this field is about so I usually recommend it to other non-environmental engineers, planners and designers that I come across in my school and work.The book is expensive but I felt it was one of those few (if any) books you'll ever buy in college that is worth every penny.This one is a keeper!

I guess this book sort of came to me while I was camping out in the glorious Rocky Mountains. I was gazing at pristine waterfalls and awe-inspiring sunsets when I said to myself, "This land must be preserved. I shall write a KornShell book." Possessed by a demonic ecological fervor, I roared down that mountain in a snowmobile, fired up a 1200 watt workstation, and wrote it all down for you. I only ask that you use the power of the KornShell for good, rather than evil. Actually, I've been writing programming manuals for many years under the pen name "Apollo Computer Inc." Recently, my agent insisted that I change it to "Hewlett-Packard Company," presumably because it sounded less ethnic. Through the years, I've been lucky enough to get lots of feedback from my readers. What do you think they ask for? More text? No. More syntax? Definitely not. When it comes right down to it, readers consistently ask for only one thing: more examples. So, I listened to them and based this tutorial entirely on examples. I feel that short, focused examples are more valuable than long, detailed examples, and I've written the book accordingly. The purpose of the book is not to make me look clever; it is to make you look clever. Nevertheless, I've sprinkled a few lengthy examples into the mix for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing. When I was a mere lad my family doctor pointed to a massive encyclopedia of pharmaceuticals and told me that he could treat 90% of all patients with only six different medicines. Similarly, although the KornShell is a very rich language, my goal is to focus on the common script ailments and to leave the beriberi treatment to specialists. Beginners may be wondering, " Is this book too hard for me?" No, probably not. Programmers experienced in various languages, though not in the KornShell, are probably wondering, "Is this book too wimpy for me?" No, probably not. To help guide both kinds of readers through the book, I've marked certain sections as being more appropriate for one group or the other. Beginners don't need an explanation of traps and experienced programmers already know what loops are. Here's how I've organized the book: Chapter 1 introduces the KornShell and its features.Chapter 2 contains some simple KornShell scripts to get you started.Chapter 3 discusses data types.Chapter 4 shows you how to do simple math.Chapter 5 illustrates pattern matching.Chapter 6 explains how to evaluate conditions.Chapter 7 shows you how to set up loops.Chapter 8 describes how to create simple menus.Chapter 9 explains how to evaluate command line arguments.Chapter 10 illustrates functions.Chapter 11 has a lot of conceptual stuff in it about environments and inheritance. It also contains some sample start-up scripts.Chapter 12 examines input and output.Chapter 13 focuses on string manipulation.Chapter 14 describes the many variables that are part of the KornShell.Chapter 15 describes various advanced features of the KornShell. (This chapter is aimed at the sophisticated programmer.)Chapter 16 contains a half-dozen lengthy KornShell examples.Chapter 17 explains command line editing and the history file. Appendix contains a syntactic quick reference. This appendix will become more valuable to you as your KornShell experience increase. Since the KornShell runs on all sorts of operating systems, I've tried to keep operating system dependencies to a bare minimum. Nevertheless, my sense is that the majority of KornShell users are either working under the UNIX operating system or are at least marginally familiar with it. Therefore, in the examples that do contain commands, I've picked UNIX commands. It is now time for the obligatory not to the tools that made this book possible. I used the \fBtroff\fR.mm macro package to format drafts of this book (an experience akin to running blindfold through nettles) and then came to my senses and converted the whole thing to Interleaf TPS. //cascade, my trusty Apollo DN4000 workstation, was always there when I needed her. This book is *the* way to begin working with the Korn shell. I needed to get up to speed with a shell scripting language in order to do Oracle DBA tasks. I bought this based on the strength of it's Amazon ratings and was completely delighted.The author has a great style, easy to understand and very clear. I found the procession of topics to be very logical; a nice gradual build up from the simple to the more complex. There is plenty of 'depth' in each chapter and good highlighting of potential problem areas and difficult concepts. These have additional coverage to help steer clear of the hassles and come to a clear understanding of the more challenging ideas.The examples are well thought out, they present each topic of interest clearly and in a meaningful way, without clutter. I have coded almost every single one and found only a few errors. Within a chapter the examples are presented with increasing complexity, but are never the page after page monsters that leave you lost. It is amazing how well the author illustrates the content with short (20 - 30 line) samples.When I was puzzled with something I had read here, I turned to two of my friends who 'live' in shell scripting up to their necks. Both have learned useful techniques from this book through my questions.My copy is literally starting to come apart from constant use for reference. It is that good.

Excellent "tutorial" with basic, simple, yet concise examples. I have the O'Reilly book "Korn Shell" but this one really gave clear examples and practice results. Even got into some more advanced features but in confirmed what I learned from the O'Reilly book. I definitely recommend this book to brush up or strengthen any beginner's level knowledge on shell programming/scripting in general but definitely on the most popular and powerful shell....Korn. I feel more confident in programming at the Shell level than I ever had before.

This is an awesome book! For people who think they need to either learn,brush up their shell scripting skills,look no further! THIS IS THE BOOK you NEED!! I have some experience writing small bash scripts,but not exactly good at it. Trying to be good at scripting though and my search for a book which can teach you the tricks of the trade in the simplest way possible,led me to this book. And I feel vindicated with my choice. Barry is an excellent writer + teacher. He knows how to make it interesting. I am enjoying this book and looking forward to writing some powerful scripts which get the job done!

I purchased this book in 2009. I use IBM's AIX, which still uses this version of ksh as the default shell. This book does a great job of presenting the information from the ground up. It appeals both to the novice and the experienced programmer. With the knowledge obtained from this book, I have put together a 6000 line ksh script that is used both as a personal productivity tool as well as an automated code compilation tool in a nightly cron job. Before this book I had minimal ksh programming skills (but extensive C programming skills). This is money well spent. Read it through a couple of times while working on the tool. I keep it with me as a reference. Highly recommend it and it is still relevant after all of these years.

This book was published 17 years ago (from the time of writing this comment).At the beginning I was a bit reluctant about buying this book and I was thinking maybe the book is a bit old and does not fully cover the subject.However, after reading all the 5 stars comments written by amazoncustomers and more surprisingly after seeing that everybody (without exception !!) had given 5 stars to the book, I said to myself "hey man, let's try this book". This is the first book that I used to learn Korn Shell (In fact I had found the job of my dreams which needed me to learn very fast the KornShell language, that I didn't know at all).I'm really happy about my decision. The book is really well written, witha very clear and simple language and contains loads of pertinentexamples. I highly recommend it particularly for those who are going tolearn the KornShell for the first time.It took me only one week (roughly 4 hours per day) to read and finishthis book.Try it! you won't regret it, trust me!!

No theory, no stories, the author lets you work hands on in Korn shell. The book is organized in a way that you do NOT have to read the whole book to use Korn Shell. There are practical examples that explain every little thing you might want to do with the Korn shell. This was extremely useful for me since I am a developer who has to write programs on demand and I do not have the time to read theories or stories. This book is very highly recommended!

This is absolutely the best book on Korn Shell scripting!! It has good examples along with a great index for finding solutions as you write scripts. I have 2-3 copies of this book and used to keep it with me all the time when doing work on UNIX systems for clients. Terse and direct.

This is a great KSH reference. I'd previously purchased the book new and loved the examples. I would recommend this title for anyone new to shell scripting or anyone looking for solid KSH examples.
