A copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. What a great story for children, as father Peter and son Eli with their dog Kara, travel to the Amazon in Peru, to find a dragon, the dwarf dragon.Going by plane and boat and finally arriving there, Eli was very excited. He was expecting a lot, but was not prepared for the thick and humid air and the bussing of the insects around them. He even things that the amazon river is a brown animal itself, flowing through the jungle.Coming finally to the outpost and seeing already a huge morpho butterfly, after an hours walk through the jungle, they arrive there and finding some friends of his dad there.Next morning they go on another hike, to go deeper into the jungle to find what they were looking for. They came across a agouti that looks like a mouse without an tail. And they find it, the dwarf dragon. Peter is doing all the filming and Eli is writing all down and made drawings of the animals. And then, after seeing an peccary, a wild pig, Eli really get scared. But, you have to find out what that might be.A wonderful book for children, with the great drawings of the different animals.Well done, Anna.

This is an educational adventure story for young readers, ages 8 and older. Ten-year old Eli Moore is an adventurer and takes the reader along on his trip to Peru. He travels with his dad and also his dog, Kara. They trek through the rain forest, come across rare animals, and take a ride down the Amazon River. The author has written a very compelling, joyful story which moves right along. There are many twists; it is thought provoking and the story-line is great. I'll be looking forward to Eli's next adventure since I've always been an adventurer since I was a kid. Thus, grandmas will like this wonderful story, too!

Have you ever wanted to explore the Amazon rainforest? Now is your chance to do so in the comfort of your own home! Anna Hagele has written an exciting adventure book that puts the reader right there--in the rainforest. Where's Eli Moore? is a well written chapter book for 7-11 year olds, but has appeal for all ages. Ten year old Eli Moore describes his experiences on his trip to the Amazon with his dad and their dog, Kara. His realistic descriptions use all the senses--sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. He tells about interesting Amazon animals, an old legend, and how he feels about them. Eli is a good role model. He is curious, brave some of the time, attentive to his father, and respectful of animals and plant life. He keeps a field journal, in which he makes beautiful drawings. The story flows well, and is easy to read. It is good as a read-aloud, as well as a good read for reluctant readers. The book could be the perfect introduction to a rainforest unit taught in school. The ending leaves the reader hanging, but could be used for lively discussion and/or a story starter.I highly recommend this book for children to read, and parents to read aloud to their children. For teachers, it is a wonderful resource for teaching science, social studies, art, writing and reading--for truly integrated learning.I can hardly wait to see where Eli goes next!

This book was ok but my 7 year-old really enjoyed it. My kids (3, 5, 7) love stories about animals. At first they weren't at all interested and I had a hard time getting through the beginning with them but once Eli made it to the Amazon they were more interested. I appreciate all the new information we learned through the book. They knew about the Amazon river but it was fun to read about (and then look up videos about) the animals Eli encountered in the book. I would've rated it 3-stars if my son hadn't enjoyed the later parts for two reasons. 1) There are a few disparaging remarks about certain characters in the book (calling them old, crazy, etc.). That's just not necessary. 2) I didn't think it was very appropriate when a native is telling the explorers about a Peruvian legend and the dad (a scientist and leader of the trip) gestures that what he is saying is crazy. Again, just not necessary and inappropriate. The book ended after Eli and his dad explored the Amazon for two days and that's sort of what it felt like. They found the elusive dragon lizard their first day they looked for it and the book only mentioned 4 other animals (which was extremely interesting and I wish there would've been more of this). Overall I thought the book fell short.I received a book from the author for review.

Every young boys wants to go explore the Amazon jungle, and young Eli Moore gets the chance. Eli and his father head to the jungle to find the dwarf dragons? Will he find them? You will have to read it to find out. Along the way he finds beautiful and scary creatures. Eli, his dad, and their dog Kara, a uniquely colored German Shepard they head out into the jungle. Along the way they meet some locals, one man tells the story of El Tunchi. You will have to find out who or what El Tunchi is yourself. A great read!I read this with my 6-year-old daughter, she loves all creatures, especially bugs, she liked to hear about all the bugs Eli was able to come in contact with. I am starting my student teaching soon, and I think this would be great book to use in the classroom. It would work well in any unit that covers geography (Peru) or any number of jungle creatures for science. I highly recommend this book. I cannot wait for the sequel, where will Eli be??I was provided a copy of this book for free in order to review it.

It was pretty interesting, but I didn't like how the author tried to empathize with the terrorists. Also, I am surprised the main character was so calm, their was little fear and it just seemed unreal to me.

While I did enjoy this book and it gave me a very different prospective on Palestine, some of the minor characters were very hard to follow. For example, I did not know where Jim and Alan came from. This book also had a fast pace but started getting slower towards the end. I still would recommend this book to others.

Great choice for a literature circle group. Gripping all the way to the end. This is a must read book.

This was a replacement purchase. My daughter left this book where the dog could get a hold of it, and she was borrowing the book from a friend.

My daughter loves it

I requested this book because it’s a topic I know very little about. I’ve studied Palestine extensively in university and the liberation of Palestine is a subject I’m very passionate about. However, the plane hijackings by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in the 1970s slipped through the cracks. The book also stood out because while it’s a work of fiction, it’s based on real events that the author lived through. Between the harrowing topic, complex politics and real life events this book could have been amazing but in the end fell a bit flat. I can best sum it up as alright. I totally expected more. The story begins with Anna boarding a flight to London from Bahrain. She’s heading back to attend boarding school. Everything is going smoothly until the pilot announces that the plane has been hijacked by members of the PFLP. The plane is diverted to Lebanon and then to an abandoned airstrip in the Jordanian desert. There the passengers are given very little food and water, exposed to the extreme elements of the desert and are in constant fear of being killed if the British government didn’t give into the demands of the hijackers. This book was written at a fast pace, although the final few chapters felt longer than necessary. I read through it in one sitting mostly due to the fact that it features short chapters and easy prose. It’s style is more middle grade than young adult but due to the topic I can see why it’s aimed at an older age group. What bothered me about this book was how I couldn’t connect or identify with any of the characters. I read on because I wanted to know what would happen and not because I cared about Anna. Her voice fell flat and forced at times, too much like an adult and not a 15 year old. At the end of the novel I knew I should have felt more for her when she struggled to come to terms with what happened to her…but I didn’t. I need books with characters I can become deeply connected to. I NEED TO FEEL THEIR PAIN, FEAR, WHATEVER! Sadly, this didn’t happen. With such a traumatic event such as this one, I should have felt something.I’ve rated this book a 3 out of 5 mainly because while I didn’t connect with it, it’s not a bad read. My main criticism is very subjective. I’ve read other reviews where people have loved the book and the characters. The topic is very interesting and one that is relevant to what is happening in the world today. If you do pick this book up, I’d love to know your thoughts!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I don't every select Young Adult / Teen books to read and review, but this one caught my attention. Most likely because it didn't have to do with fantasy and/or vampires, and the writing didn't seem to be overly juvenile. The story, loosely based on a very real episode in the author's life, takes place in 1970. During this time period, in general, passenger planes were high jacked with alarming frequency. In September 1970, 3 passenger planes were high jacked in retaliation of and to barter for the release of high jacker who had been captured the year before. On one of these planes is Anna Miller, who left Bahrain to return to England where she goes to school. The story follows Anna's experience on the plane as it is high-jacked and set down in the Jordanian desert, and left there for 4 days while negotiations are being held in England. What makes this book so powerful is the author (who actually was on one of the planes high-jacked) is pulling from her own memory and feelings. She is able to take the reader to a place that is manifested by terror, fear, sympathy and loss. The reader is in that plane, on that desert airstrip, without air conditioning, very limited food or water, and amidst deplorable conditions. At times I was moved to tears during this book - and that hasn't happened to me for quite some time!I almost think tagging this book as Young Adult / Teen is a disservice. While I can't gauge how some one in that age range will feel about a book that takes place over 40 years ago, in a world that is much different from today, I feel this book will not be drawn to the attention of many adults who would enjoy this as much as I have.I have not had occasion to recommend a book as highly as I do this one in quite some time. Difficult subject, but a powerful read.

I liked it.This is a tricky historical fiction, because the author was fictionalizing her own experience. She was THERE, but she still had to research it because it happened 45 years before she wrote it, and she had to change things because sometimes real life is exceedingly dull.Four days/nights in the desert after being highjacked--it seems it should have been more exciting than it was. Yet the dullness also has truth to it.I, as one who was alive during the 1970s, would have liked more of a sense of the time, as in the clothes worn then, the colors that were popular, the songs, the food. Obviously that would not have happened in the desert on a plane, but the days before being brightly described would have accentuated the dull horror of the highjacking experience. It's good how the author humanizes the terrorists. That may sound crazy, but the story is better not entirely populated by monsters, and these particular terrorists had an understandable, concrete goal which in a way separates them from the less focused and still very desperate terrorists of today.Still a GOOD book. Not a great one.

I started reading this book mostly because I missed college, and I felt like I wanted to take a break from reading fiction. I'm so glad I picked it up! didn't really know much about philosophy before, and stoicism seemed like as good a place as any to start. I didn't realize how many aspects of it could be applied to daily life. I've always thought that ancient Greek philosophy was something way in the past, but this book connects it to modern things like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, ethics, values, and even religion. One gray thing about this book is it was really clearly written and easy to understand,

"Stoicism: A Detailed Breakdown of Stoicism Philosophy and Wisdom from the Greats: A Complete Guide To Stoicism” by Jocko Babin does a fantastic job aggregating various famous stoic philosophic tenets. The book is written as a historical document outlining the birth of stoicism and its practice in Western culture, while at the same time, teaching the tenants of its philosophy in clear, everyday English. I can say a good introduction to stoicism undoubtedly. Overall, My purchase was successful. Thanks.

The reason I did not give the book five stars is because after several chapters in which acceptance of the outcome and responsibility for personal choices is repeated, as well as the avoidance of the vagaries of politics, the virtues and justice of several leftist talking points are extolled. Excepting that closing inconsistency, the book is excellent overall and makes great strides towards increasing access for a larger number of people to a life philosophy which will benefit them and society.

There is a wide range of Stoicism books out there. Most are boring and are either weighted too heavily on philosophical history or simply not entertaining to read. Jonas and Niles present a work that is, dare I say it..., fun to read. Hell, they even have doodle drawings. The down to earth explanations of not only Stoicism but the practical ways to implement it is welcoming. If you were ever wondering what it is or how to explain it to others, check out their Happiness Triangle.

But this book gives a detailed explanation on everything revolving around stoicism. Through easy, detailed paragraphs, the authors breaks down the study of stoicism how it applies to our life, and the history of the subject and how ancient philosophers studied it.

Since college, I have never been fan of philosophy. When posed with, “Why are we here?” My inevitable response has always been, “We are. Why waste time asking why? Go do something.” And I did. Recent enforced leisure time has had me re-reading the classics, and I decided to take some of my downtime to work this into my virtual pile of books to read. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it.

I incredibly delighted in this book - I didn't peruse it through and through, but instead read a part at any given moment more than a while. When you read a book this way, you have to put it down and consider what you have recently perused. I would do this and after that discussion to my companions or have an affair and afterward expound on it in my diary.

A new excellent book in the world of stoicism. A very down to earth overview of Stoicism and the practice thereof for the modern fast paced liver of the human life. The teachings offered by Stoicism at a better time come into my life. I recommend it for anyone wanting to study philosophy and improve the quality of their life. Recommended.

What I liked best about this John's Hopkins publication on seizures and epilepsy in childhood is its tireless message of placing epilepsy in proper perspective, that it is only a small portion of the child's life, and the belief that each child should be given the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. The information is very comprehensive in its approach, explaining brain physiology in language accessible to the layman, why seizures occurr, its diagnosis, treatment and how to cope with epilepsy. As a school nurse, I frequently take the alarmist position by writing up emergency plans for teachers and staff to follow in the event of its recurrence, even after a single seizure. I've placed parents in uncompromising positions with their doctors requesting EEG or scan results to determine level of risk. The book helped me to look past the myths and to be reminded again of the importance of looking at the whole child.

I bought this book as my child has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. Yes, there is loads of information available online regarding his condition. However, online, before you find and read something useful, you will come across a lot of unnessasary and scary things. This book on the other hand, does not scare you. On the opposite, it gave me hope. It really put things into perspective for me. I also valued the fact that there weren't many medical terms which are usually boring to read and difficult for the brain to interpret and process. I recommend this book to all individuals who have this condition in some form or another. I especially recommend this book to parents who's children have recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. I must be honest, this is a first book review I have ever written - this is how much I appreciated reading it. A very big thank you to the authors!

My son had a seizure out of the blue and it really scared me. The doctors at the ER were not very helpful and I could not get an appointment with a pediatric neurologist for 6 weeks! I was filled with worry. Meanwhile, I ordered this book and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Many parts put my mind at ease while I waited to see the real doctor at Johns Hopkins. The book is full of valuble information and it is written in language that I can easily understand. Outstanding book!

Really needed a book like this to help me get through the ups and downs that our family is going through after getting our diagnosis 2 1/2 years ago. Life has certainly been a challenge, but to hear some of the parents speak in this book and the doctors put things into perspective, my anxieties have decreased and I can focus on my daughter as my daughter, rather than just going through the motions of taking care of her. I love this book and I'm so happy it exists!

This book is great!! So much info for the newly diagnosed and loved ones as well as for individuals like myself who have lived with ep for most of our lives. My first seizure was in the spring of '75. There was nothing my parents could find for me to read about. This is a great addition to my "epilepsy library".

As a grandmother of a 7 year old who was just diagnosed with epilepsy, this book is invaluable to me.I've learned the difference between a seizure disorder and epilepsy, the different types of epilepsy, treatment options, and how it affects the family. Mostly, this book just made me feel comfortable that the physicians who treat my grandson are doing the 'right' things and secondly, that we are not alone...my grandson is in good company and the best in the medical community are cognizant and working on treatments and cures.

Recomended by my child's neurologist after diagnosis. Very helpful. Very detailed. Covers many topics. This is an invaluable resource to those newly affected. A little outdated and more than I wanted to spend on it. But I'm glad I did. This is a keeper among my reference books.

I am reading this for a professional goal since I work with children who have epilepsy. It really is a must read for parents and those who work with children. I am better informed and capable to discuss with others now more than before. Great peace of mind and understanding can come from one making the effort to read this book.

The Dragon Rustler by Anthony A Kerr was truly an amazing book that I couldn’t put down no matter how hard I tried. Before I even started reading it I was hooked, just based on what someone told me about the novel, and I get a lot of people telling me about books they’ve read. This is the first one that I literally couldn’t get out of my head and had to read it immediately and was in love with before I even read a sentence of the story. We meet Miranda and her brother Justin in their small apartment in New York and immediately you already know something very odd is going on. Her parents are secretive, secretive men show up, her and her brother start having weird dreams, and then their world turns upside down because of this visit. They find out they have a grandfather in Colorado and rather than doing what they wanted for the summer they’re sent to live with him on his ranch.Like all kids they get curious and go investigating, because when you’re told not to go in somewhere you desperately want to know what is in there. They eventually find out that their grandfather raises dragons and that someone has been stealing from the ranch. At first all clues point to one person, and end the end it is the last person you’d expect to be the thief. I really didn’t see that coming at all.Kerr told this story in such a manner that swoops you into the story immediately and leaves you craving more and more, until there is nothing left and you have to wait for the next one. And right now I really have a lot of unanswered questions and truly want to know what happens next so I’ll be paying attention for the next one because I need my questions answered.Kerr has such an amazing imagination and depicts these dragons in such a realistic manner that I almost forgot that dragons aren’t real. But how cool would it be if they really were real and this could really happen. Riding on a dragon would be the greatest thing in my opinion, and reading this novel is the closest thing I’m going to get to being able to do that, since sadly dragons don’t exist except in our dreams.

I really enjoyed The Dragon Rustler. It's not the genre that I usually read so I was pleasantly surprised by it. My previous experience with dragons is with my son with How to Train Your Dragon and since he and I have enjoyed those stories, I thought we would enjoy this one too. In fact my intention was to read this aloud to my son, but I ended up reading it on my own in just a coupe nights because I couldn't wait to see what happened. What was fun about The Dragon Rustler is that it was such a great adventure, with so much intrigue, that of course kids will like it but adults too. It really kept me guessing and I was actually quite surprised with the ending. My favorite character was the little boy Justin and the banter he has with Red. They made me laugh on several occasions. I can't wait to see where the next book in the series takes us!

The Dragon Rustler Reviewby Caleb The Dragon Rustler was a great book with lots of interesting characters. I think I’m going to rate this book 4.9 out of five stars. I’m not rating it 5 stars because normally when series starts the first one just lets you know the characters and shapes the story line and gets you into the series. Then writers have a story that is ready have more action and adventure in the second book Miranda and Justin will be more experienced and ready for a quest even . You did a good job introducing all the characters and the ranch with the map in the book of thunder bird ranch. I enjoyed it because it had good characters and storyline. Whenever the dragon rustler was revealed, I didn't know much about him.He kind of came out of nowhere. Or maybe I just skipped a page. I think this book built up the characters well. I’m looking forward to the second book. The second book i’m guessing is about them fighting the Draconian and the queen that created all monsters. Or they do the dragon contest you talked about. I’ve been wondering is this book going to be a trilogy or is it gong to have 3-5 books or more in the series. I think you were very creative with your story and characters. You did a great job with the elements of writing in your book. There was many scenes that had action in them. For some books in the first book its all introduction. In this book there was a good introduction and it had some high paced action scenes as well in the book.I liked the part when Justin and red were catching the baby dragons. I also liked when they were on the mountain with the dragon rustler and billy.I also liked that there were surprises, like that em used to ride miranda’s dragon.I also liked how you couldn’t easily predict the dragon rustler. Overall this a great book with good characters and story.I rate it 4.9 out of 5 stars. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.About me : I’m 11 and I have read many fantasies. My favorite is Harry Potter 7: The Deathly Hallows.I enjoy reading a lot, I read every night before I sleep. I like that this book doesn’t remind me of other fantasies. That is good because most fantasies are about wizards and mythology but this is an original story so you won’t have copyright problems.

A rollicking adventure, that had me on the edge of my seat with what might happen next. The author paints a fantastic world that appeals to the imagination and wonder in all of us. He develops unique and unforgettable characters, and I look forward to following the further adventures of Miranda, Justin, Red, and Storm in the upcoming books. Not only a great story, but Mr. Kerr touches on the challenges, insecurities, and hopes and dreams that we all feel as children, and carry with us as adults. With lessons in courage and persistence, I highly recommend this book to children of all ages. It's been awhile since I have read good fiction, let alone science fiction, and this is a tremendous yarn, that reminded me of why I enjoyed reading in the first place (so long ago!). Thank you for writing and sharing your gift,

Love how the author kept me guessing who the dragon rustler was right up until the end. He did a fabulous job of giving several characters convincing motives. I appreciated the bond between the kids and the dragons. It reminded me a lot of Anne McAffrey’s work.

I bought this map on my trip to Buenos Aires, before crossing the river to Montevideo. This map was very helpful, easy to read and the best one I found during my two month stay in the city. It doesn't include Carrasco or much of the Pardo but otherwise it's great. And the lamination also helps keep its shape for longer and protects it from the rain.

This guide is simple and really focused. There are information about streets and avenues and about the best places to visit in Montevideo. It's important to say that the quality of paper is very good and resistant.Simply Amazing !
