My father in law with dementia has declared this series to be the best he's read in his life. He can't follow a plot anymore, which is good because this book doesn't have one. It's definitely for people with cognitive impairments. It doesn't talk down to the reader, and it uses a normal adult vocabulary. My father in law reads the series daily. These books are expensive, and its easy to take a first glance and think that you got ripped off because the stories are so simple and devoid of conflict of any type. It is obvious that this series can't hold the interest of anybody without memory issues. However, if you keep in mind the intended audience, they are a gold mine. They bring my father in law enjoyment daily, and each day, for him, it's a fresh read. The pictures are nice, and the book does not indicate in any way that its for memory impared people. I wish there were more like it. He was an avid reader, and this allows him to continue to enjoy books.Just a quick heads up for anybody who is dealing with this kind of issue, we were able to use comic books and graphic novels until fairly recently. I'd try those first before jumping to these. Dick Tracy, Archie and Beatle Bailey comic collections had stories he could follow until fairly recently, when he lost the ability to use the pictures to give him clues to the story.
I work as an In-home Caregiver, primarily working with senior citizens living with Dementia. I am always looking for activities that are fun and cognitively stimulating for my clients. I loved the premise surrounding this book, one of several books on this "reading level" by this author. I was so very disappointed when this purchase arrived. The book is thinner than an elementary school child 's chapter book. The writing style is chapter book style. The print is an average (smaller) font. The paper used in this paperback is cheap and flimsy (not easy for elder fingers to turn.) The colorful picture MAY be colorful but it is hard to tell because they are so miniscule (approx. 3"x4") that they are hard to see. For the exorbitant price, I had hoped for an excellently developed product. Sadly, I had to return this book...too many flaws in user friendliness. Not worth the price.
Inspired by my mother's enjoyment of an Emma Rose Sparrow book I checked out of the library for her to read, I bought this one for her. It's the story of a woman who is encouraged by her daughter to try and find three things that are wonderful in each day.As she did with the book from the library, my mother loved this book, and even carried it to a doctor's appointment, like she used to before books became too difficult for her to handle. If you have a loved one who was an avid reader, but can no longer do so because of memory issues, these books are wonderful. I recommend buying hard copies, because a Kindle will be too hard to work after a while. One rather poignant benefit to having these books: they will never grow old in your loved one's mind. Each day, they will be new.
This is a short story split into several chapters and accompanied by full color pictures that actually go along with the story, which I really like. My nana loved the other chapter books I bought by this author, and now we have them all! She is still able to read short paragraphs on most days and I believe these books really complement the brain activities her doctor has her do to help with the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.
My mother in law who has dementia in the middle stages loves this book. It's easy to read and understand, and she even left a note for me saying that it lifted her spirits on a day when she was down in the dumps. Hope there will be more books like this coming out.
A cute story with good humor. So nice for a senior who can't follow long text books. Was deeply enjoyed and I think, will be re-read many times!
My mom enjoys reading this book time and again. Finally a book she can read all the way through and not have to keep starting over because she forgets characters or story lines.
very enjoyable and pleasant for busy minds. slows a person down
